We’ve always known the British love a good soak — but apparently, we’re also rather partial to bathtub snacking. According to new research undertaken in 2025 by Nuie Bathrooms, over a third of UK adults (34% to be precise) admit to eating in the bath. Yes, you read that right — it’s not just about candles, bath bombs, and lo-fi playlists anymore. It’s snacks. Real, honest-to-goodness, sometimes shockingly elaborate snacks.
At Luxe Bathroom Studio in Wetherby, we’ve long believed the bathroom is more than just a functional space — it’s a sanctuary. But even we weren’t expecting to find out that smoked salmon pâté on crackers is a legitimate bath-time delicacy for some Brits. As strange as it sounds, it seems the nation is redefining what it means to relax.
What’s on the Bath Menu for Bathtub Snacking?

Nuie’s research revealed a deliciously weird range of bath-time snacks. From the classy (a slice of cake) to the downright bold (an entire pizza!), the UK’s bathtubs are doubling as dining lounges.
Londoners are leading the charge — no surprise there — with 49% of people in the capital admitting they indulge in a snack while soaking. Their tastes vary wildly: chips, apples, tea, and biscuits are all on the table (or rather, the bath tray). Over in Ireland, indulgence takes centre stage, with 16% munching on nuts and 11% opting for cake. Meanwhile, up in Scotland, ice cream is the favourite tub treat, with apples nipping at its frosty heels.
At the other end of the (bathroom) spectrum, Norfolk residents are the most snack-resistant, with just 26% saying they eat in the bath. Perhaps they prefer to keep their snacks and suds separate — and honestly, fair play.
Generational Dips & Dishes
Nuie’s research also reveals some telling generational habits.
Gen Z are keeping it cosy and classic, with 6% saying they enjoy a cup of tea in the bath — usually accompanied by a biscuit or two. Millennials, on the other hand, are leaning hard into their sweet tooth, with ice cream, Dairy Milk bars, and chocolate buttons topping their go-to bath snack list.
Boomers? Well, they’re the least likely to snack in the tub — only 5% admit to doing so — but when they do, they go for timeless comfort: a packet of crisps, a trusty Twix, or a generous slice of cake.
The nation’s top 10 bath-time snacks, according to the research, are:
- Chocolate buttons
- Fries/chips
- Ice cream
- Dairy Milk bar
- KitKat
- Tea with biscuits
- A slice of cake
- Banana
- Twix
- Nuts
So, Why Are We Snacking in the Bath?
It’s easy to joke about bath-time pizza, but underneath it all, the trend reveals something deeper: our bathrooms have become genuine spaces for living, not just washing. They’re extensions of our personality, our routines, and — now more than ever — our comfort zones.
Steve Weatherill, owner of Luxe Bathroom Studio in Wetherby, puts it perfectly:
“This research shows how much our relationship with the bathroom has evolved. People want more from the space than functionality — they want warmth, mood, and personal touches. If someone feels comfortable enough to eat smoked salmon in the tub, we’ve clearly helped create an environment that truly feels like home.”
We couldn’t agree more. At Luxe Bathroom Studio, we design with lifestyle in mind. Whether you’re someone who likes to sip tea in peace or turn your soak into a savoury snack break, your bathroom should feel indulgent, individual, and perfectly ‘you’.
Designing for Comfort (and the Occasional Snack)
If this trend proves anything, it’s that a well-designed bathroom matters. A free-standing tub with a built-in shelf? Perfect for that cheeky KitKat. A brushed brass bath tray? Suddenly, it’s a charcuterie board. Warm lighting, deep bathtubs, and calming tones don’t just help you relax — they help you stay in that blissful moment a little longer.
And hey — we’re not saying you should eat in the bath. But if you do, we won’t judge. In fact, we’ll help you design the ideal setup to do it in style.
Final Soak
Whether you’re a biscuit-dipper, a chocoholic, or a smoked-salmon connoisseur, the takeaway is clear: the bathroom has become a true retreat — one where the little luxuries (and guilty pleasures) shine.
So next time you run a bath, ask yourself: what’s for dinner?
